Monitoring 75/80 Meter Ham Radio Nightly: 3688, 3730, 3740, 3843, 3885, 3842 kHz +
The Live ham Radio Receiver is often inactive during the day. It is always on, but, you may hear it on cb radio in the daytime, with occasional listening to the 20 meter Amateur Radio Band. You may even hear a bit of Shortwave Radio Action. Once in a while if I am at the desk I will tune the receiver looking for ship to shore communications, marine nets and other not so common communications.
The Station is Located nearly 1500ft. above seal level. The Antenna is a AS-2 Center fed 75ft. Dipole about 25 feet off the ground The antenna is fed with 450 ladder line. The antenna wire ends pointing East / South & Wes / North. It seems do rather well, but seems to be lacking a bit in the reception of California. I am pondering a fix for this.
The Receiver's Audio is streaming at 32Kbps- 44kHz Mono. The EQ on the Encoder is set to enhance the 120hz range. This keeps it from getting too crispy. The bandwidth used for this Receiver is the highest allocated on Livecbradio.com. We find the 32K the lowest possible bandwidth you can go and still get excellent audio. It does not sound as good as Art Bell's Icom 756 Pro II Online Remote Receiver, but, it does sound better than many out there. I have DiY attenuated and isolated the signal from the radio to the soundcard.
Warning: While tuning this receiver on weekend nights, we shoot for alpha male late night radio activity. If there is some drama out there, we are searching for it on weekend nights. This could mean the wingnut, the little people getting loose or the boys from 843 having a good time. As an SWL, I consider this prime time radio activity. |
