HOW TO MAKE A CHEAP CB RADIO BASE STATION ANTENNA
HOME MADE CB RADIO ANTENNA
How to Make A Cheap and Easy Home Made CB Radio Antenna. The quarter wave ground plane antenna. This simple homemade CB radio antenna can be used for base station or portable operation. Just hang it and talk.
Step One: Install 50 ohm coax from the CB radio to the antenna's location.
Step Two: Connect the center conductor of the coaxial cable to a single 105 inch piece of wire, as seen in diagram above. This is the vertical antenna.
Step Three: Connect the outer copper braid of the coaxial cable to 1,2,3, or 4 pieces of 105 inch wire. These are the 4 wires pointing downward in the diagram above. This is the ground plane.
Use tape to insulate these connections, as we do not want the antenna wire to make contact with the ground plane wires.
WARNING - NEVER INSTALL AN ANTENNA NEAR POWER LINES
A ground plane is not an electrical 'ground'. There is nothing to be gained by 'grounding' the ground plane section of the antenna. In some instances grounding the antenna can produce a faint hum in the transmit and / or receive audio.
