INTERNET CB RADIO

A Simple Program is needed to TALK LIVE ON THE AIR on The Livecbradio CB Radio Station
THE STATION : Cobra 148 | Hy-Gain Penetrator 5/8 Base Station Antenna

Livecbradio Talk
This program is not made for livecbradio, but it works great!  This program is a small popular freeware voip voice program called "VOIPERIZED".  Voiperized is the work of  Jeroen de Kleijn Copyright (c) 2004-2009. Transmitter Location: Lincoln Nebraska

DIRECTIONS: (Reading this entire page is recommended before operation)

Step 1: DOWNLOAD and Install Program (Installer) Voiperized.com

Step 2: Start Voiperized. Select File and Add Contact

Step 3: Type livecbradio in both name and username blanks

Step 4: In Voiperized Settings / Preferences, select Push-toTalk (PTT) mode

Step 5: In Voiperized Settings / Preferences, set bitrate slider to 10kbps

Step 6: Select File and Set Name (set name to your cb handle or call sign)

Step 7: In voiperized Contacts right click livecbradio and select Connect

Livecbradio Operation : The sound coming from the name livecbradio is the cb radio's receive audio. Press and hold PTT button to Transmit - Release PTT button to listen.

WARNING: PRESSING PTT "KEYS UP" THE CB RADIO. NEVER CLICK PTT FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME WITHOUT TALKING. YOU ARE TRANSMITTING ON A CB RADIO STATION THE MOMENT YOU PRESS PTT WHILE CONNECTED TO THE LIVECBRADIO. PEOPLE ON THE CB RADIO HEAR EVERY WORD YOU SAY, JUST LIKE YOU ARE AT THE STATION PRESSING THE BUTTON AND TALKING IN TO THE MICROPHONE. PRESSING PTT WITHOUT TALKING MAY GET YOU DISCONNECTED, MUTED OR BANNED FROM LIVECBRADIO.

THE RULES:

Do not use "VAD". Only Use PTT (push to talk) in Settings/Preferences
?. Because it makes the tranmitter key up with every little noise in your room

Set bitrate to 10Kbps in Settings/Preferences
?. Slow connections like wireless, dial up and cheap dsl can sound distorted at higher bitrates

If you press PTT you Must Talk. NEVER press PTT without talking
?. Clicking PTT Without Talking = Disconnection, Muted or Banned. Playing Music etc = Banned

Do Not use Spacebar as PTT "hot key". Use "Ctrl"
?. It keys up the transmitter every time you hit space bar while typing words on keyboard

Do not connect "Private" to anyone
? . This causes one person to be left transmitting alone (ghost talking)

Do not disconnect from livecbradio and continue to talk to those connected
? . This causes people to be left transmitting alone (ghost talking)

Do not Mute the livecbradio audio and continue to transmit over the radio
? . This would be like turning down the volume on a cb radio and still talking on

This is NOT a Chat Room
? . Livecbradio users should conduct themselves as radio operators instead of computer operators. Since you are transmitting and sound like anyone else using a cb radio, it could be unproductive for you to act like you are on a computer. Livecbradio's intended purpose is to allow anyone the ability to talk on a real live cb radio station from their computer.

LIVECBRADIO TWEAKS AND PEAKS

  • Set your Display Name: In Voiperized go to "File" / "Set Name". Put your handle or call in the blank and press ok. Now completely restart voiperized and log back in to livecbradio. Now people will see you as what you put in the blank.
  • Louder Modulation: Double click little grey speaker on lower right Windows Task bar by the clock. This brings up your volume control panel (master volume) At top left click "options" and make sure "Advanced Controls" has a check by it on the left. "Advanced Controls" ON puts a button below the "Microphone Volume" Slider. Button may be labeled "Advanced". Click the Advanced button and turn ON "Mic Boost". Sometimes displayed as "20db boost". Check it.
  • PTT HOT KEY OPTION: You don't have to press PTT with mouse on voiperized to talk. You can set a "hot key" so you can press a key on your keyboard to talk. Go to Voiperized settings/preferences. On lower left you see PTT checked and to the right of that is " hotkey: " with a box on the right that may say spacebar. Click that box. Now press the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard below the enter key. Click OK. ONLY USE Ctrl key or it will briefly key radio when you type messages.
  • Sound Check: Want to know what your computer mic audio sounds like? Use sound recorder in windows. Go to windows start button, up to programs, accessories, entertainment and then "Sound Recorder". Click red circle to record and speak into your mic about 1 foot away. Press rectangle to stop and then press triangle on it's side and listen to the playback of your voice. Use this to dial in the proper distance you speak from the mic to be clear.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

  • Restarting the program or rebooting your computer fixes over half of all problems.
  • Disconnected everytime after exactly 20 seconds. Otherwise known as "The 20 second bug".  The reason this is happening is because you are using wireless, behind a router or in some cases cheap DSL internet. Meaning, you do not have your own specific direct connection to a static IP address. This "bug" is rare and only effects one out of 40 people that are "behind a router". This is not the fault of Voiperized. This occurs because a stay alive ping from your pc can't get through to everyone connected to you, because the router you are "behind" is not open. In some cases this can be fixed by using "Port Forwarding".  Go to your router's configuration panel. Go to the "Port Forwarding" or "Port Mapping" section of your router's configuration. Change the settings to "Allow Port 4379 UDP". This may fix it. It may not.
  • No Mic Audio: If "sound check", using the directions above works but you still do not have mic audio in Voiperized... Go to Settings/Preferences in Voiperized. On the bottom left in settings you see "SOUND Input and Output Devices. They both say "Primary". Change both Input and Output to the other selection. (the name of your soundcard). Press OK and then Exit and Restart Voiperized for the changes to take effect.
  • "Choppy" Audio: Choppy on and off audio is caused by people trying to key livecbradio with wireless keyboards. Example: You are using a wireless keyboard with the Ctrl key as your PTT. For some reason, many wireless keyboards will not hold the PTT signal. Another words, you press and hold the PTT button and the radio jumps in and out of transmit mode. Use a regular keyboard if you must have keyboard PTT (push to talk).

Why does livecbradio receive audio sound different than normal cb radio?
Simple Answer: "Because it is digital". The voice codec used in voiperized is not meant to process static and other noises present on cb radio. Sometimes very weak signals and static will make "R2D2 Noises". The voice codec has a sort of built in noise gate or noise canceling effect. The static will remain and then be cancelled out in about 7 seconds where some light bleeping noises are heard. This is normal. You are not missing anything, as that noise is dead silence. If you hear a very weak signal with this slight bleeping noise and it's hard to hear them, this would be the same as fighting to hear someone with a very weak signal through the static level. The noise gate effect of the program actually works to your advantage in some cases. The receive audio of the radio is run through an EQ before going in to voip. The transmit audio is not effected by this phenomenon because static and other noises are not present..
You have to understand, it takes time to process audio in a computer format. If the receive audio sounded like super-duper surround sound stereo, there would be a huge delay. (many seconds) This is the best sound you can get in real time. Voiperized is tested faster than a local cell phone call with many times better audio quality. It's less than a second delay from one side of the earth to the other. Anything with better audio quality would cause a delay on the radio, causing people to talk at the same time.

LEGAL ISSUES

  • Livecbradio.com owner has had email & telephone contact with Head of Enforcement at FCC in discussing livecbradio legal issues. Their concern was that livecbradio.com was using a legal cb radio with proper FCC certification. At this time they requested, and were given the FCC ID numbers located on the back of the radios involved.
  • The Livecbradio transmitter (unmodified cobra 148) complies with " 47C.F.R. § 95.603(c). A CB transmitter must be certificated by the FCC prior to marketing or importation. 47 C.F.R. §§ 95.603(c); 2.803.
  • Note : The transmitter is never active for live use, unless a human operator is there to physically control access to the transmitter. When a human moderator is not present, the transmitter portion of the radio is physically and most literally unplugged.
